Ok, John Travolta is the bad guy, and Denzel is the hero. Everyone involved in this movie gets a high grade for intensity. Overall score 7.0. For most, this film will be a Blockbuster rental. Rent it someday when you want an evening of train heists, hostages, and automatic rifle horror. Don't be surprised if the bad guys all have bad breath. They look... well, like guys who don't brush their teeth. This story isn't new, but there are some modern details added for an up-to-date touch. Melt some "French Connection" in with "Inside Man" and add a hint of "Deja Vu".
If you like Denzel (I do) this will be another hero cult movie to stack on the shelf in your closet. Loved the earring and the Walther. Loved it when Travolta admitted "You're my hero".
Parent warning: Bad bad bad language.
REVIEWER #2: I agree with my counterpart that this is typical Denzel Washington. The more movies that he puts out, the more he is falling into the Tom Cruise syndrome (TCS). Every movie that Tom Cruise makes, he starts out as a normal guy and becomes some iconis hero. (Top Gun, Days of Thunder, etc). Although, I must admit there were a few times where you think that the story is reversed and you kinda are on the edge of your seat. It is a rental, it is not for kids and it is worth seeing.
The Taking of Pelham 123 rolls into the station with a 7.

An energetic updating of the 1974 mass transit thriller, takes account of how much the character — to say nothing of the characters — of New York has changed since that almost mythic decade of decline and default. Check?
What's that stuff about bad breath?
Thank you. I like your review style. In cases where I want to see the movie, you don't give away the surprise.
Why did they remake this bomber? I didn't like Walter Matthau in the first one.
Is it true that Garber's wife wanted him to bring home a gallon of milk? It looked like he was carrying a half gallon. Not anybody's lackey, huh?
The Matthau version killed this one.
Tom Cruise syndrome? Try living with him and his ego. Molest that while you're rolling into the station, normal guy.
