It's a rare treat to see an author write his own dream biography. Steve Martin has given up his fantasy in the film "Shopgirl". Ray Porter, a white haired 50 year old tech magnate uses his wealthy station to subdue and do Saks' young glove counter girl portrayed by Claire Danes. Claire's other bo is a self employed unsuccessful font designer, turned rock band audio roadie. Bang bang fly fly Seattle New York LA who knew just you. Now, I know. This is Steve Martin without comedy. Almost none. There's only one minor chuckle, but it's not an arrow head shot, nor a Jammie joke.
If I dreamed my own fantasy, it would be about a different guy, gal, and situation. You can't like this guy Porter. You can't respect Danes' story, but you could empathize with her plight. In the end, all's well. Danes grows up, and you're led to respect that. If you were born before 1955, this is a flick without an ethical root. After 1955, you may see this as a rite of passage film. I'd say 4.0.

I saw this movie, but I borrowed it, so no money changed hands. This movie wasn't worth the price of a ticket.
This film is about as close to an R rating as you can get.
