The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008 Version)
I am not sure if I benefited from not seeing the older version of this film first or not. I imagine the creativity and purpose of the older film was the same as in the 2008 version with Keanu Reeves.
This movie shows that the human race is so out of touch with the universe and it's real purpose. When an alien craft lands in New York city, the first thing the government and people do is behave aggressively and assume the craft is here to destroy us. Arrogance and fear lead to demise when the humans figure out that the aliens are here to deliver Armageddon. Here to give the planet a jump start by eliminating them and saving the planet itself, government leaders, army generals and church leaders all plot to destroy them.
The real meaning of the movie is the human race trying to convince the aliens not to destroy them, but keanu has already pushed the button and cannot stop the process (or can he)?
It wasn't as predicatble as you may have tought.
Special effects get a 10, lots of explosions and the story of the human race on the brink get this movie into the 8.75 range.
