Wow! Big Red takes the track into his own hands (hoofs) and racks up a Triple Crown dream at Chenery Farm. Compelling drama, family orientation, courage, confidence, patience...all fit into a nicely scripted film. Good job in production, direction, casting, acting...everybody's a winner.
Did John Malkovich try too hard? No, don't let his excursions in rant acting turn you off. He did a great job, and without Malko, this would have been a Lassie Come Home episode.
Don't worry that Secretariat is a small compact story based on a true "big" story. You and your whole family will remember Secretariat, and you'll feel good. Want to know the rest of the "win the Belmont by 31 lengths" story? A little research will be enlightening. The movie is a 6.5.
