Aw, you old timers who revere this Walter Matthau version of "123", come clean. It's old. This slug of a story just doesn't stand out without the delicious extras presented in the 2009 Denzel/Travolta version. Matthau and Robert Shaw are great actors, but the mixture of great actors and dry old cardboard stories doesn't cut it here at the Big Triple Blog.
What's the trouble? Well, my neighbor's dog could have written the 1974 screenplay. What a goofy getaway plan! What a doofus unbelievable mixture of characters! Walter Matthau acts like he solved all the mystery in this film in the first ten minutes. See "Grumpy Old Men" for a little better match. Who's that punky cusser character in the train office?
I'm rating this slug at 4.0. Give me Denzel and Travolta any day.
REVIEWER #2: I must agree with my colleague with his (or her) review on this foul mouthed, boring and relatively simple movie. It was predicatble from the time the last preview ended before the movie started. There were 3 sets in the whole movie. The subway car, the subway control center and a bridge at the end. Boring... There was so much crappy language that it just made it almost not worth watching.
I will not blow up the train by giving this waste of film a 4.

Punky? Is this the guy who had the foul mouth? Hey, Martin Balsam and Jerry Stiller were in this, too. How about some credit there. Jerry Stiller is the god of vinegar flavored humor.
