Sombrero Galaxy ... Astronomical Hat of the Day

Size 6-7/8 ? No way. The Sombrero Galaxy is 29 million light years away from the earth, and it is 50,000 light years in diameter (brim to brim). In the center of the galaxy, a gigantic black hole exists. This galaxy can be viewed from earth with a pair of good binoculars and a patient scan of the Virgo cluster of galaxies. How far is a light year? You'd need one mondo tape measure to measure the distance light travels in one year: 5,800,000,000,000 miles. Photo thanks go to Dr. Hubbel.
