Campaign 2008: Going down the toilet
When this whole campaign thing started over a year ago, it was fun, fresh and full of new life for the candidates. The economy was in much better shape. And again, as it always happens, we are being fed blocks of promises and information that we all know just cannot be done.
First, what is any candidate going to do about the price of anything. Gas for instance. 'I can't even talk to most of you because you cannot afford to get to the rally' says Hillary. Barak follows up with 'I wish I could meet each and every one of you, but I know a lot of our fellow democrats are working late, in second jobs just to keep food on the table'. And McCain has been dead for three years and know one really knows it. He would have to be if he supports GWB's plan for everything. (War, tax refunds, ecomnomy doing OK...)
My point is this, don't feed me crap about how if you become president, gas is going to drop to 2.59 a gallon like it was just over year ago. Don't tell my family that I won't have to work a second job after you get elected because the economy will be bustling.
The President of the United States is mostly just a guy anyway. 'Commander in Chief' only means that he is the final decision on dropping nukes and that you have to salute him when he walks by. Other than that, what real powers does he have to turn the ecomony around or lower gas prices? None. Of course, GWB thinks that a refund of about 1000 bucks will 'stimulate' the economy, but we all know that most uncaring people will have 4 cases of beer and a new plasma in thier living rooms not 12 hours after they get the check. (So 25% goes to Mexico where they make most of the crappy beer and 75% goes to Japan where they make the TV's) Come on.
The time we are in right now is really bad. You cannot get a better job and be transfered because you cannot get rid of your house. Everything, and I do mean everything costs far more than it did a year ago. Gas, food, necessities? I mean what the heck is going on here? I can't afford to pay 50 bucks to fill up my 13 gallon gas tank.
I feel this country under current leadership has fallen down too many steps and is having a hard time just getting up, let alone climbing back to the top. We are in trouble and no government official can seem to get that through their head. Even state government officials are crying help to our glorified Washington leaders. All 50 states have a budget deficit. Illinois is down almost a billion. Where is all this money going? Airlines are bankrupt, the big three car makers are closing facilities and cutting 1/3 of the workforces. What does it take for our governmental leaders to figure this out. Even my son knows the harsh reality as I tell him I cannot afford to pay the 100 fee for the spring baseball season. COME ON!!!
The war is costing Billions. How about putting that money back into our ecomony. The defense department budget is more than most third world GDP's. How about cancelling that 4 billion dollar submarine and dropping a billion into Social Security.
I am not an expert by any means, but it just seems to me that living in this country (although I would choose to live no where else) is just getting harder and harder and it's really sad that our elected leadership has let it get this way. Republicans can be proud of the excellent legacy that George W. Bush will leave behind. Huge Budget Deficit, Economy in the Toilet, Two Wars that have gone out of control (Money and Men), Gas prices rise almost 2 bucks a gallon since Clinton and topping the list: 9/11. He was unprepared, surprised and has not recovered from that day in history when this country was on a roll.
Sad.

That was about the best package on the presidential race I've read all year. I really like it when you write down your very thoughtful opinions.
Is the economy in the toilet? I'm livin' good compared to what my parents did. I could go back to work and have enough to do anything I want. Is that a war? I regard it as an action to bonk the terrorists and save the world. It took guts. Gas? When bottled water costs more than gas, gas is underpriced.
I really like discussing this stuff.
Oh look, President Bush must have read my blog. Quoting him on an April 29 outdoor press conference.
he president's biggest target was Congress.
"These are difficult times. And the American people know it and they want to know whether or not Congress knows it," Mr. Bush said.
Mr. Bush raised the anti-Congress theme repeatedly. "I believe that they're letting the American people down, is what I believe," he said. "It's either a lack of leadership or a lack of understanding of the issue. And either way, it's not good for the country."
DO YA THINK? How about YOUR letting down the country. His answer to gas prices is building more refinieries here in America. And he has some great locations picked out such as the Alaskan Wildlife refuge, and Yosemetie national Park. This will definitely lower gas prices.
What a CROC!
