Good Samaritan volunteers to be designated driver

On Wednesday night, J.L. "Saturday" Smith volunteered his time and his spacious Park Avenue to drive three fun-loving baseball fans to South Bend, Indiana.

South Bend is home to the "A" league Silver Hawks. The Hawks were scheduled to take on the Peoria "Bus Riders" in a game that made no difference whatsoever in the league standings. The Silver Hawks played their best, but they just couldn't get any momentum. Based on the first six innings, if the game had gone the distance, the final score might have been 24-2 in favor of the visitors. But, God intervened right after the seventh inning stretch with a horrendous thunderstorm. Fans made a massive run for parking lots when a game delay was announced, and within minutes, South Bend was inundated with the promised rain and a sky full of lightning.
Saturday Smith drove his group of fans to safety back at the church parking lot at Goshen/Elkhart's Faith United Methodist Church. Good job, Jim.
