Book Review: One Hundred Years of Solitude

Oprah's Book Club selected OHYS (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) to be on its list of books. Having spent 30 minutes reading the book, I decided to quit abruptly and pull the fire alarm.

This novel is meant to deviously take the reader into one hundred years of deep slumber. There are tangy little fruit loops of phrases and ideas (perhaps chosen by the Spanish-to-English translator) that tickle your curiosity, but mostly, this text is dull gray sand and pea gravel.

No flow, no point, no surprise, no meaningful lesson. Hey, Oprah, who fooled you on this one?

RULE VIOLATION: You cannot title your article "book review: if you have not read the book.

In this case, I would title the article, "THIS BOOK SUCKS!"

Points off for admitting to watching Oprah. Additional double points off for attempting to read a book she recommends.
