What can you say about a film that took a dormant genre of regional music and made it a national phenomenon? For the briefest moment, the film world perked up to hear an old blind man singing his bluegrass guts out. I’ve already given this film a high mark, and everything I said stacks up viewing after viewing. The Coens have created some indelible films this decade, but this is an epic of great proportion. Not to be tellin’ tales out of school, but every thing about this film transports your 200 pound ego way into the humility zone. You couldn't have dreamed up this movie, yet genuises did.
