I was skeptical on the drive to see this movie. Here's why. First Robert has always gotten a bad rap. He deserves it with all his past trouble. I was worried that this was another movie where he didn't try to get all of what he is capable out of it. Secondly, I never read or watched anything related to Iron Man before, so i wasn't sure if this would be like the 14 Batman movies where the 'been there, done that' genre exists. Finally, a ceiling fan was hampering the opening previews, and my fellow reviewer became obsessed with removing it.
So, Iron Man. I LOVED IT. From opening scene, to the final 18 seconds of film (AFTER THE CREDITS: Ever Heard of the 'Avenger'?) I was enjoying myself, guessing and watching a good movie. It comes from a perspective of an American who finds that his perception of helping turns out to be damaging. The technology fits perfectly into this picture, the story line fits perfectly in to this picture and the actors and the characters they play all fit really good and MAKE the picture. It is always cool to see how others perceive the technology of the future. This is the best Downey movie I have ever seen.
Rarely do I think of giving a giving a movie a 10, but I did in this case. However, being able to guess what the plot was (bad business partner) and the mixed balance of vulnerability and indestructibility of the technology took a point away. Explosions: (yep), Cool Tech (yep), Good Acting (yep), Story (yep): RATING: 9
(FYI: The ceiling fan turned out to be a non factor allowing my fellow reviewer to relax and enjoy the flick.)

I finally relaxed. After all, I'm not Iron Man.
This movie is a 7.5. It's got lots of the right stuff, like the loyal assistant (gal) from Shakespeare In Love. It's got the "never give up" spirit. It's even got the ethical foundation in the character who saved Downey in the cave. I'd like to hang onto ratings of 8.0 and higher for bigger stuff.
I'd like to get one of those atomic hearts. Then, I could probably wear a car and still fly around.
Junior, you're flyin' right now.
