As I write this blog entry under the category of 'technology', I cringe just a little because the word technology, to me, means that words like innovation, new direction and cool future stuff is involved. Unfortunately, my once 'Hero' company, Microsoft, is falling, trying to pick up the pieces of a technological wonder of a leader stepping down.
Microsoft has never recovered since Bill announced (and I fully support) his leaving the 'business' of his company to pursue family and philanthropy. Without Office and Server software and the rock solid stability of Windows XP' (Yes XP, not Vista) what has come out of the Seattle campus to really wow the 85% worldwide monopoly of it's user base?
Some examples of this are:
- Microsoft's stock price is stuck at year 2000 levels, about the time Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates handed over the chief executive's office.
- Microsoft had two hits, Office and Windows, and hasn't really innovated since.Microsoft has competed poorly against Google, whose share price is to die for.
- Vista is a disaster, and it's a failure of leadership.
So, with my iPhone in hand and a full MAC experience with my dad's purchase of a MacBook air (The best and coolest laptop in the world today) I PLEDGE MY ALLEGIANCE to Apple computer. My next personal computer will be a Mac, and I cannot see me trying to fight with MS issues any longer.
Obviously, being in the IT industry for over 15 years, I can tell you that there is no end in site for Microsoft. They will continue to run up behemoth numbers and rule the desktop OS and server market, but if they don;t come up with some 'wow' pretty soon, they had better look out.(See next post)
