40 years for Dummies

For those of you who read the blog (or just know me in general) I am not the kind of person who sits around pondering that my life is half over or I am over the hill and life only goes downhill from here. Although I have battled with depression for over 15 years now, I still think I have the will to keep going on and enjoy life as much as possible. (I know many of you are saying, yeah right, he is moody, can be a real jerk and is always ready to get the heck out of where ever he is.)

Well, for 40 years now i have tried to live life as best I can. Of course there are things that deter you from doing what you really want to do. For instance, i would love to drive a Ferrari Enzo and live in Maui but I don;t make 300 million a year, so I don't. If there is one thing I learned (Although I have not completed passed all the tests yet) is that you have to live within your means. Once you can get to where you are really comfortable realizing that what you have you have worked really hard for and should be proud and humbled to be where you are, you change your perspective a bit. (I really want a big HDTV, but I have to live within my means (so i have to wait until next year) haha).

I came home the other day and looked at my house and yard and thought...Wow, I used to have nothing to my name and now I am responsible for this big house, these cars, my family and keeping a light on upstairs so everyone feels safe. It's kinda humbling to think that I have actually become a valued member of society who follows most of the rules and contributes to something.

I guess my only advice to those of you with the big 40 in your headlights is: It's just another day. Live it with pride, honestly and take lots of video and pictures so you can reflect for life's second half.

Thanks to all of you who have put up with me for as long as you have. Especially the people that have known me for 40 years. (Dad).
